Alabama's public pension system ranks 36th in the nation in funded ratio, according to the latest Reason Foundation Annual Pension Solvency and Performance Report.

In performance categories, Alabama's system ranks 41st in Return Surplus, which measures investment performance relative to targets, and 44th in Employer Contribution Rate adequacy.

In investment strategy, the state ranks 2nd in Alternative Assets allocation and 47th in the Probability of Hitting its Assumed Return target.
